Which dress as a wedding guest?

As a female wedding guest, you should, as mentioned before, avoid the color white when choosing your dress. You should also not resort to signal colors such as red. Black is also taboo as this color is a symbol of mourning. At a wedding, however, only tears of joy should flow. An exception is a two-tone dress where, for example, the top or bottom is black.

If you are good friends with the bride, it is best to ask her what she thinks of the dress you have chosen. Since the day belongs exclusively to the bridal couple, she can also dictate what you wear. This also applies, for example, if you are a bridesmaid. They usually wear these uniform bridesmaid dresses.

However, you should not be discouraged by all these rules and regulations, because you are guaranteed to find the right dress more easily than you think. Case, cocktail or evening dresses are always a good choice thanks to their classic cuts and lines. Mint, light blue or pastel shades always work.

If you don't know exactly which cut suits your figure best, then the following tips will help you.

  • If you have a female O-shape with a slightly rounded stomach that you would like to conceal, you should choose an A-line dress. The Empire line would also go very well here. A subtle V-neck helps to distract from the problem areas.
  • With the typical pear figure, i.e. when the lower half of the body is wider than the upper half, the A-line or slightly flared dresses also fit. The waist can also be emphasized with a narrow belt.
  • If you have short legs, you should choose a dress with a V-neckline and button plackets, as they visually lengthen your body. The Empire line would be appropriate.
  • On the other hand, if you have an H-shape, an A-line dress would be more flattering. So if shoulders, waist and hips are almost the same width, you can conjure up a narrow waist with this cut.
  • Women with small breasts can optically enlarge them by choosing a dress that has small embroidery, ruffles or a flounce on the neckline. When it comes to the shape of the neckline, basically anything is allowed, whether it’s a round neckline, V-neckline or cowl neckline.
  • If you have a Y-shape, i.e. broad shoulders and rather narrow hips, a halter dress or one-shoulder dress would look good on you. For example, peplum dresses or dresses with a flared skirt are suitable for emphasizing your lower body.
